All-Star picks

To honor horse racing season, we have passed the Quarter-pole and are heading into the summer months and All-Star debate time.

Here are how I see the All-Star teams shaping up right now. Projected Peoples Champions (public ballot winners as starters) are bold:

Team NL

Catchers

  1. Russell Martin, Dodgers
  2. Geovany Soto, Cubs
  3. Brian McCann, Braves

First basemen

  1. Albert Pujols, Cardinals
  2. Lance Berkman, Astros ... The Big Puma as the pick here to start as the DH in Yankee Stadium
  3. Derrek Lee, Cubs

Second basemen

  1. Chase Utley, Phillies
  2. Dan Uggla, Marlins

Third basemen

  1. Chipper Jones, Braves
  2. David Wright, Mets
  3. Garrett Atkins, Rockies

Shortstops

  1. Hanley Ramirez, Marlins
  2. Miguel Tejada, Astros
  3. Jimmy Rollins, Phillies

Outfielders

  1. Alfonso Soriano, Cubs
  2. Ryan J. Braun, Brewers
  3. Matt Holliday, Rockies
  4. Nate McLouth, Pirates
  5. Pat Burrell, Phillies
  6. Ryan Church, Mets

Starting pitchers

  1. Brandon Webb, Diamondbacks
  2. Johan Santana, Mets
  3. Carlos Zambrano, Cubs
  4. Cole Hamels, Phillies
  5. Tim Lincecum, Giants
  6. Edinson Volquez, Reds
  7. Jake Peavy, Padres

Relief pitchers

  1. Billy Wagner, Mets ... The pick to close
  2. Brad Lidge, Phillies
  3. Brandon Lyon, Diamondbacks
  4. Jon Rauch, Nationals

Team AL

Catchers

  1. Joe Mauer, Twins
  2. Victor Martinez, Indians
  3. Jason Varitek, Red Sox

First basemen

  1. Kevin Youkilis, Red Sox
  2. Justin Morneau, Twins

Second basemen

  1. Dustin Pedroia, Red Sox
  2. Brian Roberts, Orioles

Third basemen

  1. Alex Rodriguez, Yankees
  2. Miguel Cabrera, Tigers

Shortstops

  1. Derek Jeter, Yankees
  2. Michael Young, Rangers

Outfielders

  1. Josh Hamilton, Rangers
  2. Grady Sizemore, Indians
  3. Ichiro Suzuki, Mariners
  4. Manny Ramirez, Red Sox
  5. Carlos Quentin, White Sox
  6. Magglio Ordonez, Tigers
  7. Emil Brown, Athletics

DH

  1. David Ortiz, Red Sox

Starting pitchers

  1. Daisuke Matsuzaka, Red Sox
  2. Chien-Ming Wang, Yankees
  3. Cliff Lee, Indians
  4. Roy Halladay, Blue Jays
  5. James Shields, Rays
  6. Joe Saunders, Angels

Relief pitchers

  1. Jonathan Papelbon, Red Sox
  2. Francisco Rodriguez, Angels
  3. Mariano Rivera, Yankees
  4. George Sherrill, Orioles
  5. Joakim Soria, Royals

Send me some comments where players I missed the boat on. Don't question me on the players I picked to start. Those are your fault(s). The public picks those and guys like Ichiro Suzuki are voted in all the time, whereas he might not even make the team if I had my way.

Or, heck, send me your projections on the All-Star rosters.

Granted, I am an NL guy, but if the AL doesn't have a lead going into the seventh for Rivera-K-Rod-Papelbon, I like the NL team to finally win this season. The NL bats are just having much better years to date.

Emack.

All-Star picks

My only suggestion would be to add Ryan Theriot.  He has had an awesome season so far.

All-Star picks

I WOULD PUT SORIA UP AGAINST ANY OF THOSE OTHER CLOSERS.  HIS STUFF IS JUST SICK!  UNFORTUNATLY HE PITCHES FOR THE ROYALS AND DOESN'T GET THAT MANY CHANCES...YET.
